HUMAN WAVE ATTACK
THE MACBETH, LONDON
There’s an unclutted rawness about Human Wave Attack, because every note bares their collective soul.
HWA envelope you in a swirl of beautifully beatific bac- chanalia. The surface is a chitinous exoskeleton of punky noise and restless dislocation. But underneath is a shadow that’s pure instinct. No wonder the crowd are a little wary of the sheer emotional drive. Yet at the same time, people are drawn towards the darkly psychedelic swoops.. Because HWA have a charismatic uncertainty that shimmers from all great bands.
Right now, it may be ludicrous to call HWA a great band. But they’re perhaps the most important new band in Britain. Pretentious twaddle? Check them out for yourself, and make up your own mind. Or, is that too rock ’n’ roll for you? Malcolm Dome.
